Oddity from my thinktool // Strangajxo de mia pensilo
I said something very odd a few days ago. I was telling my roommate how I had to clean up the feathers from a bird the cat dragged in. But instead of saying 'feathers', I said 'bird leaves'. This is the sort of word I might construct in Esperanto if I couldn't readily think of the proper word. Since the feathers were strewn about the floor as leaves are in the fall, I called them bird leaves. (Had I been referring to the feathers on the bird, I might have referred to them collectively as a bird pelt.)
Mi diris ion strangan antaux kelkaj tagoj. Mi rakontis al mia kunlogxanto, kiel mi devis forpurigi plumojn de birdo kiun la kato entiris. Sed anstataux la vorton 'plumoj', mi diris la vorton 'birdfolioj'. Jen tia vorto kiun mi konstruus en Esperanto se mi ne tuj povus elpensi la gxustan vorton. Cxar la plumoj estis disfaligitaj sur la plankon kiel foliojn en auxtuno, mi nomis ilin birdfolioj. (Se mi parolus pri la plumoj sur la birdo, mi eble nomus ilin birdpelteroj.)
But there are two important things to note here: 1) I was not speaking Esperanto at the time, but English; and 2) I didn't even notice that I had said anything strange.
Tamen, oni rimarku du gravajn aspektojn jenajn: 1) Mi ne tiumomente parolis Esperanton, sed la anglan; kaj 2) Mi ne ecx rimarkis ke mi diris ion ajn strangan.
Do I think differently now that I've learned a second language? It would appear so.
Cxu mi pensas malsame nun kompare al tiam kiam mi parolis nur unu lingvon? Sxajnas ke jes.
